Any channel can be viewed as an automobile for developing a celebrity traditions. The well known religious textbooks of the world’s faiths tend to be replete along with examples of those that are well known from the general public. Several of the pharaohs of age-old Egypt set in place devices to be sure their own recognition for centuries to return. Celebrity traditions, once on a royalty along with biblical/mythical figures, provides pervaded many groups of contemporary society including company, publishing, as well as academia (the scilebrities). Together with every technological advance titles have become mounted on discoveries. Particularly for large efforts to the human race, the factor is usually deemed honorably. Mass media has grown the publicity and electrical power of movie star. A craze has developed which celebrity holds with it progressively more social money than in the earlier days. Each land or national community (linguistic, societal, religious) have their own independent superstar system, yet this is getting less the scenario due to globalization.

Modern-day Celebrity Tradition

Celebrity standing is broadly sought after through many people. Stars are often unhappy by the status. Press photographers are a issue for celebs. Another problem can be celebrity matrimony. There is study that advises child stars have very poor emotional health throughout adulthood, and frequently turn to drug use. Suzanne somers diet Celebrity standing is rated by a “A-list” or perhaps “B-list” hierarchy. Often people who attained celebrity reputation come to be sorry, e.grams. Bart Spring within ‘t Veld who found loath the truth TV celeb culture which often Big Brother, which often he had been the first success in the world, started.
Vehicles connected with celebrity tradition

In the USA, Superstar culture is done and displayed by television set talk displays such as Activity Tonight, in which actors and also music personalities promote the latest videos and photos, and by quite a few celebrity publications such as Individuals, Us, as well as Star.
Fits

In the movie star culture from the 21st century, your “Tantrumical” may come in order to full bloom in the form of ‘the star tantrum. Several celebrity symbols, regardless of their particular chronological get older, are well known for listed incredibly premature and putting temper tantrums if he or she don’t get their individual way’. Dan Millman ‘coined the idea of Acquired Situational Arrogance to describe the particular destructive along with outrageous actions of those who are usually constantly within the public eyesight. This late-acquired narcissism…’ — tantrum-y.

Complaints

Perhaps the most common complaint of modern day celebrity tradition is that the open, instead of searching for virtues or even talents within celebrities, look for plaque attack those who are by far the most willing to split ethical border, or those who’re most ambitious in self-promotion. To put it differently, infamy has exchanged fame. Your social function of the village drunk, a legal court jester, or the intimately indecent are not fresh, but debatably, the glorification of those individuals is actually.

Explanations

One particular possible outline of this development is that a false importance has been produced in order to advertise a product or possibly a service, as opposed to to history a just biographical event. Weight loss new products usually are launched in the world marketplace that is continuously expanding, the requirement for more stars has become a [industry] in itself.

A different explanation, employed by Chuck Palahniuk, is niagra exaggeration of modern superstar culture is produced out of an excuse for drama along with spectacle. Throughout the slim ts book Haunted, this individual describes the particular pattern of making a celebrity like a god-like figure, just as soon as this image is produced, the desire to eliminate it and also shame anyone in the many extreme techniques possible. Tabloid periodicals are the model example of this specific theory.
Posthumous Celebrity

Some inventors such as poets, designers, musicians, in addition to inventors are generally little-known and little-appreciated on their lives, but they are feted as excellent innovators following their demise. In some cases, soon after historians uncover a new creator’s role inside development of some sort of cultural as well as technical approach, the additions of these little-known men and women become more reputed. A need to achieve this form of posthumous fame might have motivated Joe Abel, Adam Rich in addition to Pauly Shore to help stage their very own deaths.

Occasionally a false dying mention may cause a person to change their musical legacy. Alfred Nobel founded the actual Nobel Prizes soon after an incorrect obituary branded him some sort of “merchant of death” because of his advent and advertising of tremendous.

Celebrities who had been far more popular after their particular deaths compared to during their life-time (and often have been completely or perhaps relatively unfamiliar) include Language of ancient greece philosopher Socrates; researchers Galileo Galilei; 1800s-era poet John Keats; artist Vincent van Gogh; poet along with novelist Edgar Allan Poe; musician Eva Cassidy; article writer Emily Dickinson; artist Edith Holden, in whose 1906 diary was obviously a best-seller when released posthumously in 1977); copy writer Franz Kafka; diarist Anne Frank; thinker Soren Kierkegaard; writer David Kennedy Toole (who posthumously picked up a Pulitzer Winning prize for Fictional works 12 several years after his / her death); creator Stieg Larsson (who passed away with his Centuries novels unregistered) and Bill Webb Ellis, the assumed inventor involving Rugby football.

Herostratus, a Greek gentleman arsoned the Your forehead of Artemis (on the list of Seven Magic of the Historic World) throughout 356 BC to be able to immortalize his title. Although specialists at the time attemptedto expunge him via history and tried people with the particular death charges for even simply mentioning his / her name, they succeeded throughout achieving sustained fame, while his title is well known even today.

Economics connected with “superstars”

Sherwin Rosen (1981) examined this economics involving superstars to find out why “relatively modest numbers of individuals earn millions of money and also seem to master the career fields in which that they engage.” Rosen states that within superstar market segments, “small differences in ability at the top of the particular distribution will certainly translate into huge differences in income.” Rosen points out of which “…sellers of higher expertise charge just slightly increased prices than others of reduced talent, nevertheless sell bigger quantities; the greater revenue come extremely from advertising larger volumes than by charging greater prices”

Robert Joe and Philip Cook’s ebook “The Winner-Take-All Society” describes the fact that small number of celebrities have come to command in the creative and social sphere: “Winner-take-all market segments have grown popular in part simply because technology offers greatly lengthy the power as well as reach with the planet’s most skilled performers….Now that almost all music we Atlanta bankruptcy attorney all listen to will be prerecorded…the world’s best tenor may be literally just about everywhere at once.” Joe B. Krueger’s research of the thought of the “superstar” throughout popular songs indicate of which “the top 5% associated with revenue power generators took in 62% connected with concert income in Early in the eightys and 84% within 2003?, seeing that demand for “superstar” artists increased.

Controversy Over Superstardom

Several scholars believe that superstardom has a beneficial role throughout society. Caillois points out Rawls, who declares that the “premiums gained by hard to find natural advantages . . . [serve] to cover the prices of training and also to encourage the initiatives of understanding, as well as in order to direct capability to where this best furthers the most popular interest.” Cowen (Year 2000) Max Burn cites Rosen (1981) in order to argue that “the megastars effect is definitely welfare-improving (consumers get better shows) even if this leads to elevating income inequality,” in addition to adds which the “superstar phenomenon must not be overstressed. Certainly, fame can be a positive-sum game, not really a negative neither a right to bare legs zero-sum 1.” Cowen states that will “countervailing forces work, such as a unity of excellent that restrictions the ability of the most effective stars in order to dominate the marketplace for long, or higher radically this elastic availability of fame.” Because of this “when demand for celebrity increases, diet plan prizes, returns and what ever fame making distinctions is booming too.”

In contrast, it has been suggested “compensation systems of which resemble awards [lotteries] can also develop perverse incentives by means of discouraging accommodating behaviour and might encourage several contestants to be able to disrupt the particular performance regarding competitors”. As well, Chad and Make (1995) possess called “into query the way the winner-take-all promotes operate, because of their damaging functions.” They debate that the “winner-take-all benefit structure [of opposition for superstardom] provides a get out of hand of individual as well as social work-related waste, because it leads both equally to escalating (monetary in addition to non-monetary) reward inequalities also to overcrowdings in the promotes and vocations prone to a great overestimation of one’s opportunity to succeed.” Hence as a result, they will argue that Baby Bullet “when unwanted numbers of participants are caused to invest in overall performance enhancement to be able to rise their particular individual likelihood of winning, these kind of investments will likely be mutually offsetting and socially ineffective; end consumers gets more valuable goods but the societal cost are usually excessive.”

The actual “Superstar’s Curse”

Arthur De Vany and also W. Brian Walls make use of the term “superstar’s curse” to spell out the risk interested in contracting “superstar” or maybe “A-list” actors intended for feature films. Environnant les Vany and Water bores claim that your “curse” exists since “if superstars are usually paid their own expected share to profit, their particular movies practically surely will miss money.” A variety offer that this occurrence occurs mainly because film income exhibit some sort of “stable Paretian distribution” with a “finite suggest and limitless variance” and a manipulated shape that includes to creating this “superstar’s curse”.
Boldrin and Levine indicate that the “puzzling factor [of superstardom] derives from your fact that, usually, the perceivable scope to which a new superstar is really a better singer or creates a better great than the reduced members of the identical trade is extremely tiny.” Boldrin and also Levine predict in which “superstars should are all around in sectors where the major product is details which can be quickly and cheaply reproduced and also distributed using a massive scale”. These people note that this kind of “…is the case for that worlds connected with sport, amusement, and martial arts disciplines and words, which correlates with the going through observations in which motivated Rosen’s unique contribution

“Superstar” Craft Museums

A small number of important art museums and galleries, including Chad Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum with New York, this Centre Pompidou throughout Paris, Honest Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum inside Bilbao, among others, became household names as well as major attractions. Art museums and galleries such as these, because of their striking, architecturally made buildings and also well known designs can be called “superstar” art galleries and museums. With their large visitor traffic, celeb museums are sometimes able to uncover a significant profits from gallery bookshops as well as restaurants and also have a “major impact on the area economy”.

Superstar galleries are able to use the most popular appeal of their whereabouts and craft holdings to produce their very own books, Smoke Assist video lessons, and television special deals, which contributes an additional earnings stream and additional reinforces your public’s awareness of this museum. A few superstar galleries have also began establishing gallery networks. By way of example, London’s Tate Gallery has released satellite art work museums with Liverpool along with St. Ives.
National institutions like art galleries and museums play some sort of “gatekeeping role” for consumers, making an effort to screen along with grade your cultural items and artworks, hence “reduc[ing] information and check costs” for consumers. Furthermore, “by channelling resources to some Shake Weight limited gang of visual musicians, cultural establishments also improve superstar phenomena inside the visual disciplines.”

Superstar Entrepreneurs

McGraw-Hill’s economic website is adament that the multi-million-dollar wages of celeb Chief Executive Representatives (CEOs) within the corporate insan-kaynaklari.net globe with will be a type of contest prize. The massive salaries regarding superstar management “often seem to appear like prizes with the winners associated with contests in lieu of compensation in substitution for the value of this marginal product involving labour.” iRenew Bracelet As one example, “a company might have many vice-presidents associated with roughly related ability as well as the v-p (who may be a little more talented than these) that is advertised to chief executive receives a massive salary raise, which is similar Magic Mesh to a treasure for profitable the contest as well v-p.”

The article proceeds to argue that “…such the compensation program may be effective if the corporation is only able to position its vip’s according to the comparative value of suzanne somers diet their particular Silk n Sensepil contribution towards the organization (the business cannot study the productivity of each and every executive, just the productivity from the group of professionals).” Moreover, “even when executives are generally paid any wage similar to the average production of the party.

Last year, when the Arcade Fire shocked everybody (especially Dog the Bounty Hunter) by winning Album of the Year at the Grammys, it set in motion a chain of events that culminated in one rather troubling realization: Perhaps everything has changed.

I say troubling because, really, the Grammys have never been cool (and there is something like five decades of empirical evidence to back up that claim), and voters bestowing the night’s top award on an indie act ? instead of Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, each of whom were also nominated ? was a hip, hip move. So it stood to reason that, if one of the stuffiest of award shows could get with the times, then perhaps everyone could. Perhaps the Arcade Fire’s AOTY win fractured the space-time continuum itself, sort of like on “Lost,” when Benjamin Linus turned that wheel and the island started skipping through time and there were actually two islands, one existing in current time and one that was stuck in the 1970s, and that old woman had a pendulum and Jack ended up detonating a hydrogen bomb with a rock or something (“Lost” definitely got confusing for a while there).

What I am trying to say is that it is not entirely inconceivable that, post Arcade Fire, there now exist two Grammy Awards: the one where Led Zeppelin has zero wins (but Sheryl Crow has nine) and the one where cool bands take home the biggest awards. You know, the actual Grammys versus the bizarro Grammys.

It’s an insane theory, yes, and yet, it is also (sort of) backed up by this year’s Grammy nominations. In actuality ? given she had one of the best-selling albums of the past decade and almost single-handedly saved the industry in 2011 ? Adele is not only one of the night’s most-nominated artists, but she’ll probably end up walking away with the most golden gramophones, too. In fantasy, Bon Iver stuns the Dog the Bounty Hunters of the world and takes home three-quarters of the “Big Four” awards. In the grand cosmic scheme of things, I suppose either is probable.

Shoot, at the very least, the theory makes the Grammys a lot more interesting … and impossible to predict. Still, I’m going to try my best. So here are my theoretical picks for the 54th Grammy Awards, where I’ve weighed the actual against the bizarro in a misguided attempt to predict just who will triumph in the night’s biggest categories. Hey, it’s better than just saying “Adele is gonna win everything.” Even though she probably will. It is just a theory, after all.

Album of the Year
» Adele, 21
» Foo Fighters, Wasting Light
» Lady Gaga, Born This Way
» Bruno Mars, Doo-Wops & Hooligans
» Rihanna, Loud

“Actual” Grammys: Dude, come on, Adele wins this one by a mile.

“Bizarro” Grammys: The most bizarro winner would probably be Rihanna, who’s not exactly celebrated as an “album artist,” or maybe Bruno Mars, though, thanks to “F— You” (much-nominated at last-year’s Grammys) and his string of hits this year, he seems to be a favorite among voters.

Continuum-Uniting Winner: Remember in 2009, when Taylor Swift’s Fearless won AOTY and everyone got all upset? Well, it was the year’s best-selling album, too, and at the time, Swift was credited with keeping a sinking industry afloat. Adele’s 21 has sold nearly as many copies as Fearless … and has done so in less than a year. So, uh, yeah, she’ll win this.

Record of the Year
» Adele, “Rolling in the Deep”
» Bon Iver, “Holocene”
» Bruno Mars, “Grenade”
» Mumford & Sons, “The Cave”
» Katy Perry, “Firework”

“Actual” Grammys: It’s Adele’s to lose, though she may face a tough challenge from Mumford & Sons, who not only landed nominations last year, but had 2011′s best-selling rock album based mainly on the strength of “The Cave.” Still, a win by them here would be an upset in every sense of the word.

“Bizarro” Grammys: Got to be “Holocene,” which on the surface, doesn’t stand much of a chance. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that Bon Iver wins something on Sunday, and so, much like Arcade Fire’s Album of the Year win last year …

Continuum-Uniting Winner: … I’m going with the bearded dude from Wisconsin. Look, voters aren’t going to give Adele everything, most likely because they don’t want to deal with the backlash. There’s also the Arcade Fire momentum from last year, not to mention the fact that since this award goes to not only the artist, but the producer, recording engineer and mixer, too, it tends to go to classically constructed tunes (Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” Alison Krauss’ and Robert Plant’s “Please Read the Letter”) as opposed to songs with massive commercial appeal. So I’m taking “Holocene” for the upset.

Song of the Year
» Adele, “Rolling in the Deep”
» Bon Iver, “Holocene”
» Bruno Mars, “Grenade”
» Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi and Fergie, “All of the Lights”
» Mumford & Sons, “The Cave”

“Actual” Grammys: Again, Adele.

“Bizarro” Grammys: “Holocene,” though how amazing would it be if “All of the Lights” actually won here? Would Kanye even let anyone else talk during his acceptance speech?

Continuum-Uniting Winner: “Rolling in the Deep.” It was 2011′s biggest song, and one look at previous SOTY winners ? massive hits like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” “Rehab,” “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own” ? well, you can see which way this one tends to go.

Best New Artist
» The Band Perry
» Bon Iver
» J. Cole
» Nicki Minaj
» Skrillex

“Actual” Grammys: Adele. Oh, wait, this is the only category she’s not nominated in (though she did win it in 2009). OK, well, then how about the Band Perry? They’re a country act, and over the past decade, when nominated, country acts tend to win BNA (Shelby Lynne in 2001, Carrie Underwood in 2007, the Zac Brown Band in 2010). Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that their “If I Die Young” was a certified crossover smash, either.

“Bizarro” Grammys: It actually wouldn’t be all that odd if Bon Iver wins here (since, even though I picked him to take Song of the Year, there’s a pretty good shot this is the “Big Four” award he wins), so, can I interest you in some Skrillex?

Continuum-Uniting Winner: Barbz rejoice, I’m taking Nicki Minaj! Why? Well, after a massive year, she was ignored everywhere else in the “Big Four,” so a BNA win would be a nice olive branch extended by Grammy voters. Also, no hip-hop artist (male or female) has won this award since Lauryn Hill in 1999, and how bizarro is that?!? So fittingly, Best New Artist is hers.

Lady Gaga is amping up her fans for the Born This Way Ball, set to kick off later this year. On Tuesday, she dropped a sketch of her gothic castle-themed stage design, and in the very early hours of Wednesday morning (February 8), she teased fans with a poster for the trek.

The black-and-white poster, which includes touches of neon purple and turquoise, features an omniscient image of Gaga, decked out in her full “BTW” horned look, looking down from the sky. Underneath, in a castle that looks an awful lot like the one from the tour sketch, Gaga, wearing a piano dress, hangs with a group of suit-wearing dudes. And, for those paying close enough attention, Zombie Boy even makes an appearance, peeking out from one of the castle windows.

In her long-simmering latest “Yoü and I” fashion film, Gaga portrays her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. Jo smolders in the mini-film, smoking his way through it. Clips of Jo stripping (revealing Gaga’s taped-down chest) are intercut with shots of Gaga done up in an S&M-type outfit, dancing and tossing her long blond hair. The same outfit is worn by other dancers also featured in the clip, directed by Inez and Vinoodh.

Along with all these developments Little Monsters have to be excited about, this Sunday, Mother Monster is up for a number of Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Born This Way and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Yoü and I.”

by Joel Hanek

With the Oscars coming up just around the corner, it?s time that we pay tribute to some of the most versatile and overlooked actors: professional wrestlers. They are masters of the live performance, can pull out surprisingly funny and heart-felt performances on screen, and have convinced me to eat more processed meat than any other acting demographic on the planet. (Rest in peace, Macho Man!)

While these giant men in tights make cameos as the unidentified goon in every other action movie (I?m looking at you, Kevin Nash), here are my picks for the top five starring roles for pro-wrestlers in film.

5. “Walking Tall” (2004)
Way before Dwayne Johnson starred in PG-rated family friendly flicks and even way before he became the franchise savior, the man formerly known as The Rock was destined to be the new Arnold of the action world. In this remake of the 1973 film by the same name, Johnson takes vigilante action against a corrupt town with his fists and a badass weapon: a chunk of wood. Much like after I watch any Batman movie, this film instills the desire to want to patrol the streets and take justice into my own hands ? but instead, playing “Arkham City” seems more reasonable.

» HONORABLE MENTION: “The Rundown” (2003). Swap one ’90s icon for another (Sean William Scott instead of Johnny Knoxville) as a sidekick, add in an ?I?ve been over it since ‘Pulp Fiction’” Christopher Walken as the villain, and voila… “The Rundown”!

4. “No Holds Barred” (1989)
In the 1980s, during pro-wrestling?s first reign, Hulk Hogan ran wild all over pop-culture. In his first starring role, Hogan put his acting chops to the test by playing an extremely popular pro-wrestler named Rip who, much like you and I, was tormented by The Man and resolved his problems with body slams.

» HONORABLE MENTION: “Suburban Commando” (1991). In this scenario, Hulk Hogan?s impossible body mass is explained by him being a space alien and not being a ?roided out ’80s pro-wrestler. Playing off Christopher Lloyd as the straight man, this movie has a surprising amount of cheesy charm.

3. “Predator” (1987)
Who knew that two of the stars of this movie were destined to be future United States governors? Apparently, the Predator did, because he was a jerk and promoted interstellar anarchy. Although he doesn?t survive, the original friendly neighborhood libertarian Jesse ?The Body? Ventura provides great support to Schwarzenegger & co. by chewing lots of tobacco, being a “sexual tyrannosaurus” and having literally no time to bleed.

2. “They Live” (1988)
In my opinion, John Carpenter?s 1988 movie ?They Live? is one of the best science-fiction movies of all time. Like all great sci-fi, there?s a powerful underlying message wrapped in a fantastical metaphor — in this case, the motive for this outlandish allegory comes from Carpenter?s anti-conservatism stance and his distrust of Reagan-era politics. If that last sentence bored you, it?s a movie where Roddy ?Rowdy? Piper goes around beating up people who are secretly space aliens. The movie also gave us one of the greatest lines of all time (?I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I’m all out of bubble gum!?), not to mention the best fight scene of all time. It’s six minutes long. It’s the best.

1. “The Princess Bride” (1987)
If you have not seen this movie yet ? please stop what you?re doing, leave your work/school/wherever you are and immediately watch it. For children of the ’80s, Rob Reiner?s tribute to fairy tales became an instant definition of the genre as the homage became fortified into a classic itself. I?ll restrain myself and will try not to rattle off quotes from Vizzini or The Dread Pirate Roberts and instead focus on the lovable big man himself, Andre Rousimoff, otherwise known as Andre the Giant. In one of his only starring roles, Andre plays Fezzik, the big-hearted protector of Westley and Inigo ? and while Andre isn?t the best actor on this list, he adds a level of charm that no one else can. Enough said: just play us out, Andre.

Tell us your favorite wrestler-starring movies in the comments section and on Twitter!

While they eagerly await the release of his upcoming album, Believe, Beliebers will have to make do with Justin Bieber’s upcoming photo book.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Justin Bieber: Just Getting Started” is scheduled for release in September. The singer’s second official photo book comes on the heels of “First Step 2 Forever: My Story,” which was released in October 2010 and sold more than one million copies in 25 languages.

The new book will include information about the 17-year-old singer’s most recent tour and the making of his record-breaking concert documentary, “Never Say Never,” as well as the sessions for Believe. Among the bold-faced names that have popped in so far to lay down tracks for that album are fellow Canadian Drake,? who has long wanted to work with the pop star.

Kanye West? is also reportedly slated to contribute to the disc, which is scheduled for release later this year. Super-producers Pharrell, will.i.am? and rapper Lil Wayne are among the other names that have been tossed about as possible collaborators. Believe is the follow-up to the Christmas-themed Under the Mistletoe, which was released in late 2011.

Given his advancing age and the influence of a new group of collaborators, the effort is promising to be a step in a new direction for the multiplatinum teen idol. “The only conversation we’ve had about Justin’s album that we’re about to do is it’s really important that it’s the proper transition, because we’ve seen him [with] ‘Baby,’ now we’re watching him grow up,” Bieber’s longtime vocal producer, Kuk Harrell,? told MTV News in November. “And we can’t just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There’s a record in between.”

In the meantime, fans will have to settle for watching Bieber help re-launch MTV’s iconic “Punk’d”? hidden-camera show, which relaunches next month with a rotating slate of guest hosts.

Paul Rudd and MTV News’ Josh Horowitz have been known to find themselves in odd situations whenever they meet up.

Back in 2008 when Rudd was promoting his then-upcoming film “Role Models,” the pair went out to Dave & Buster’s. Needless to say, the interview ended with Rudd and Horowitz inside a gigantic claw game machine.

Now the two will meet for MTV First, but this time Jennifer Aniston is coming along to join the fun. It all begins on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:56 p.m. on MTV. The stars of the upcoming film “Wanderlust” will present a never-before-seen clip from the movie.

Immediately afterward, Rudd and Aniston will take questions from the fans on MTV.com. All you have to do to get your question in the running is submit it through MTV.com or via Twitter using @MTVNews and the hashtag #AskWanderlust.

What’s going to happen when everyone gets together for another interview? It’s impossible to say, knowing what kind of trouble they’ve gotten into before, but you’ll have to tune into MTV on February 22 to find out and see if your question gets answered.

What did you think of the classic Paul Rudd interview? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!

Since Dan Savage first started the It Gets Better Project in the fall of 2010, thousands of people have created online videos to support the program empowering LGBT youth, garnering more than 40 million views in total. Tonight (February 21), Savage will bring these stories together in an MTV special, during which viewers will meet three young people coming to terms with their sexual orientation and gender identity.

“The lives of these three young people will resonate with millions of teens ? gay and straight ? who are being bullied for simply being themselves,” Savage said. “It’s so important they know that things get better and that living openly and honestly and being who you are makes it better.”

Viewers will get to know Vanessa, a young woman who tries to gain her mother’s acceptance of her gay relationship. They’ll follow Greg, a popular high school class president, as he prepares to tell his friends and parents that he’s gay. Finally, they’ll watch as Aydian, who is transgender, overcomes obstacles while preparing to marry a woman.

Savage drew on his own challenging high school experience to help identify with young LGBT people. “A lot of us were there, a lot of us were bullied LGBT kids in high schools and middle schools once upon a time. I had thoughts about suicide when I was in high school,” he said.

By taking an in-depth look at their lives, the columnist hopes to remind young people that being bullied is only temporary. “I’m so glad I didn’t commit suicide because my life is so rewarding and rich, and that’s what the campaign is about: Adult LGBT kids sharing our lives, which are rewarding and rich, with these LGBT kids who may be thinking about ending their lives,” he explained.

The show is intercut with messages of hope from celebrities including Zachary Quinto, Ellen DeGeneres, Ke$ha, “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino and more.

In the lead-up to the release of the new comedy “Wanderlust,” much has been made of Jennifer Aniston’s purported nude scene in the film. But when MTV New’s Josh Horowitz sat down with Aniston and co-star Paul Rudd for our MTV First on Wednesday, the actress waved off the scene.

“Yeah, big deal!” Aniston said, insisting that most of the talk around the scene was just sensational. “Isn’t that a good, fun headline? That’s what happens.”

“Wanderlust” ? fans can preview an exclusive clip when we launch our “First” special Wednesday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com ? takes place at a commune, where two down-on-their-luck New Yorkers, played by Aniston and Rudd, seek refuge. And when you consider that “Wet, Hot American Summer” helmer David Wain was behind the camera, nudity may seem tame. For Aniston, the scene was just another part of the job.

“At that point, we had been shooting the movie for two months, two-and-a-half months, and the amount of things that we were asked to do that we were just like ‘All right,’” Aniston said. “At that point, that was like putting on my shoes.”

The duo share the experience of onscreen skin, a fact Aniston felt compelled to share. “You’ve shown your butt,” she said to Rudd.

“Many times,” he replied.

“And onscreen as well,” Aniston joked. “In the makeup chair, he always never had clothes on.”

“I had to get dressed for the shots,” Rudd replied. “But when we weren’t shooting, I was hanging brain, as it were.”

For Aniston, nudity has to matter for where the character is heading in the story, and a crazy, purposeless nude scene would never work. “I think it depends on what the movie is. It felt like it would be gratuitous to do that in a movie like this and it would be more distracting from the movie and what was happening to the character,” she explained. “It would all be about, ‘Oh, you’re naked, so it’s boobs onscreen,’ so it would totally lose the fun and the empowering moment [my character], Linda, was having in that scene.”

One of Aniston’s co-stars, however, does show a fair amount of skin, even if he’s wearing a prosthetic penis.

“Joe Lo Truglio, the first night he came out with his prosthetic penis, within five minutes we were all touching it,” Aniston revealed. “We were touching it, and we were examining it. It was just so interesting. It was just right there, underneath it. I think first night of shooting, I could resist, there was the beginning of many, many butt slaps.”

The 54th annual Grammy Awards are just a day away and everyone in the MTV Newsroom is starting to get excited. Will Beyoncé” show up? How will Adele sound in her first major live performance since undergoing surgery to repair a vocal cord hemorrhage? What color will Katy Perry”‘s hair be? What will Lady Gaga” wear? We can’t wait to find out. But if last year’s show is any indication, it’s safe to say that just about anything could happen at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Sunday night.

The quirk factor was high at last year’s Grammys, and it got started long before a single award was handed out. Lady Gaga’s red carpet arrival inside of a pearlescent egg carried by four scantily clad dudes wearing prosthetics on their faces and shoulders should have been reminder enough that the unusual is the norm at the Grammys. But in case it wasn’t, the show itself delivered Muppets and Katy Perry on a swing. We’ve rounded up five big moments from last year’s show to remind you why the Grammys are the craziest awards show of the year.

» Lady Gaga arrives in that freakin’ egg, er, “vessel.”
Never one to just casually stroll the red carpet in a pretty dress, Lady Gaga went to great lengths to make every element of her Grammy appearance part of a larger art piece that culminated in the performance of her then-new single “Born this Way.” It all started on the red carpet, when she arrived already inside her “vessel,” later claiming to Jay Leno that she’d been in a state of artistic incubation inside it for 72 hours. (Did you just roll your eyes? We think you just rolled your eyes!) The pop star emerged to deliver a full-voiced ? if otherwise joyless ? performance of the song, which at the time was drawing heavy criticism for sounding maybe a little too much like Madonna’s 1989 classic “Express Yourself,” and went on to score three Grammys, including Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster.

» Did Christina Aguilera fall down after that showstopping Aretha Franklin tribute?
Last year’s ceremony kicked off with an Aretha Franklin tribute featuring Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams. The ladies delivered a rousing group performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman” before launching into solos of “Ain’t No Way,” “Until You Come Back to Me,” “Think,” “Respect” and “Spirit in the Dark” and closing with “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” ? tearing the roof off the Staples Center. Except all anyone wanted to talk about afterward was how Christina maybe slipped a little in her towering heels.

The performance came just one week after Xtina botched “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLV (luckily, Kelly Clarkson’s rendition this year went smoothly), and it seemed like the “Beautiful” singer and “Voice” judge had fully redeemed herself after the debacle, delivering a fantastic vocal performance … until she stumbled onstage, sending gossips into a tizzy that the singer may have been, we’ll say, out of sorts during the performance despite much evidence to the contrary. Or maybe people just like a good near-fall? People get very excited when an entertainer loses her footing ? don’t they, Madonna?

Anyway, while everyone tried to make Xtina’s mini-tumble a bigger story than it was, the ladies earned a richly deserved standing ovation for their tribute to Franklin, who was rather ill at the time but has since recovered, lost a bunch of weight, gotten engaged and ended that engagement. (A year in Hollywood time is like five years in normal person time … maybe that’s why everyone is so afraid of getting older!)

» Bieber performs big, loses Best New Artist to unknown jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding.
Justin Bieber’s medley performance began with an acoustic strum through “Baby” but quickly segued into a raucous take on “Never Say Never,” complete with breakdancing ninja acrobats, fire breathers and a cameo rap by “Karate Kid” star Jaden Smith. Biebs’ mentor Usher even joined in on the fun for a pop-and-lock-heavy dance-off to his hit “OMG.”

But the real story with Bieber at last year’s Grammys was that he lost. To Esperanza Spalding. A critically acclaimed but otherwise unknown jazz performer. Bieber didn’t take the loss so well but his fans went even crazier, expressing the profound sadness they felt and bearing witness to their idol’s defeat by hacking Spalding’s Wikipedia page and changing her middle name to both “Justin” and “Quesadilla.” One fan wrote, “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?” while another scribbled, “So the Esperanza Spalding has only 8 thousand followers on twitter and how many does Justin Bieber has?”

It seems someone forgot to tell the Belieber army that the Grammys are not a popularity contest (well, they’re not supposed to be, anyway) and that one’s amount of Twitter followers is not taken into account when deciding the winners. Duly noted!

» Katy Perry performed the ballad “Not Like the Movies” while on a swing, playing video from her wedding to Russell Brand.
If you needed further proof that a lot can change in just a single year, look no further than Katy Perry’s performance at last year’s ceremony. Much like she did on her California Dreams Tour, Perry performed her ballad “Not Like the Movies” while sitting on a swing as video from her elaborate October 2010 wedding to Russell Brand was projected behind her.

Though one would think a sweet performance like Katy’s would shut the gossip mill down for at least a little while, the couple was already back to defending their strange union less than two months later when Brand co-hosted “Live!” with Kelly Ripa. By year’s end, Perry and Brand’s marriage was officially no more, and it made re-watching her performance from last year for the purposes of this article, um, kind of awkward.

» Cee Lo performed “Forget You” with a bunch of Muppets (and Gwyneth Paltrow).
No, no one at your Grammy party spiked your drink. Cee Lo Green, wearing a crazy red bear suit and a rainbow fan of feathers (think peacock), really did perform his Grammy-nominated smash “Forget You” backed by a bunch of singing and dancing Muppets while Oscar-winning home health guru Gwyneth Paltrow writhed atop his piano. Oddly, the whole thing worked like gangbusters and was a big old ball of fun. (And when was the last time anyone associated the word “fun” with Gwyneth Paltrow? Such is the funky power of Cee Lo.)

This year’s show has the potential to outdo last year’s in the water-cooler department with Rihanna and Chris Brown both set to perform under the same roof for the first time since, well, you know … in addition to plenty of interesting collabos, including a special electronic dance music performance set to feature the Foo Fighters (right?), and whatever Lady Gaga decides to get into.
